• Q: What does programming websites involve?

  Basic answer to this question would be that programming involves choosing a web scripting language and defining the areas that will need to be dynamically updated. Say there is a gallery that you would like on your website. Usually an image, name, description and order would like to be updatable. The programmer would make a database that stores information regarding the fields, and then would make an interface for users to easily update. Finally the programmer displays the content added for all people to see. 

• Q: What language do you generally program in?

  My language of choice is PHP, but I have also learnt ASP and also Ruby on Rails. Each to their own. I've stuck with PHP because of the time and effort I have already put into creating my content management application.

• Q: Where can I learn how to program?

  There are plenty of tutorials around the web, but you need to know what you want to learn. If you have a purpose and set a scope, programming is a lot easier.

  There are courses at TAFE and University that provide you with Certificates or Degrees that can get your foot in the door. Be warned that programming isn't for everybody, but it can be very rewarding when you accomplish a difficult task.
